Born in Barbados her family listened to reggae, and she began singing while she was young. After being disturbed by the turbulent nature of her household life, and her constant disputes with her father she began to get involved in music. In the end, she realized that she was meant to become a professional. In high school she was a part of a band group and was invited to audition with Evan Rodgers. The producer was awestruck by the ability of this teenager. She made the move to New York to start a career in singing full time. The debut album of Rihanna quickly became popular and she was hailed as a music sensation. Her popularity was well-known among young people due to her lively dance music, which was a hit.
